Questions to Ask a Wedding Photographer

Q: Do you have my date available?

Q: Are you the photographer who will shoot my wedding?

A: Yes, I’m the photographer who will shoot your wedding. Even if your package includes a second photographer, I’ll always be the one responsible for everybody and for everything.

Q: Do you include high-resolution files (digital negatives) with your packages?

A: Yes. All of our wedding packages include the negatives in high resolution without the watermark.

Q: How would you describe your photographic style (e.g. traditional, photojournalistic, candid, fashion)?

A: Fashion + photojournalistic= Editorial. Fortunately for my clients, when it comes to taking photographs I’m very narcissist. I like my photographs to look like they belong on the cover of a wedding magazine. In the most natural way, I’ll make sure you look amazing.

I don’t want you to look just “ok”…I want WOW! photographs. I LOVE that moment when the bride & groom say “WOW!”

Q: How would you describe your working style?

A: I blend into the background and I shoot what unfolds naturally during the formal rituals and traditions of the wedding (ceremony, first dance, speeches, etc.) but I normally create a more visible presence by taking charge and choreographing shots at other times throughout the evening. Even though I am quite familiar with the flow of a wedding, I do not like to depend on “good luck” to get a shot. I’ve learned that sometimes the “moment” never happens or if it happens, I may get you in a bad angle and therefore you don’t look your best. For that reason, it is important to create the story when time is available. This is the only way I can guarantee to my clients those WOW! photographs they expect.

Q: What do you think distinguishes your work from that of other photographers?

A: This is a very difficult question to respond to since the reason why I became a wedding photographer is very deep and personal. I know that most of clients want to know that I studied photography at one of the best and largest photography schools in the world, that I have years of experience shooting ONLY weddings, that I have shot 100’s of weddings, that I use the best and most expensive equipment to shoot, that I use the best software and spend weeks after your wedding editing your photos one by one, making art with artistic cropping systems, plug-ins, actions, color corrections, blah, blah, blah… I understand all of this is very important and make a huge difference but at the end of the day, what makes me different from others is the passion and love I have for photography and for weddings in and of itself. I believe in love and love to surround myself by love and happiness at every chance I get. I am happiest shooting weddings, more so than any other kind of photography I could do.

Q: How much do you charge per hour?

A: Rates are at $600 per hour and you can customize a package based on that.

Q: How much do engagement photos cost?

A: It cost $600. Please note that an engagement photo session or a bridal photo session is included in the “Premium Full Day Package”

Q: How do we book Cesar Chavez Photography for a shoot?

A: I require a non-refundable deposit/retainer and a signed contract to book my wedding services. Once the retainer has been received and details of the chosen wedding package have been finalized on the agreement sheet, your booking with me is finalized.

Q: Are you shooting in digital or film format or both?

A: Digital.

Q: Do you shoot in color and black & white? Infrared?

A: I consider B&W the most beautiful and artistic expression of photography but I always shoot in color so I can have the option to decide if it looks better in color or B&W because once I make it B&W it stays in B&W.

Q: Can I give you a list of specific shots we would like?

A: Certainly you can provide a list of specific shots, in fact, I’ll give access to one of my galleries where you can make a selection of your favorite photographs, and “most have” poses. However, because a wedding is an uncontrolled event, I can not guarantee delivery of any specifically requested image(s).

Q: Can you put together a slideshow of the engagement session and show it during the cocktail hour?

A: No. For legal reasons (copyright infringement), I can’t use popular songs and make a slideshow with my photographs. For an extra fee I can certainly make a slideshow of the engagement session photographed by me but I don’t provide the projector and we will have to use a royalty-free music which I know is not going to have a great impact as if we were using your “favorite” song and for that reason I don’t really like to offer that service.

Q: What information do you need from me before the wedding day?

A: “The Photographer Schedule”. This doc will provide me with the times, locations, important info needed and will not be needed until one month before the day of your wedding.

Q: May I have a list of references?

A: Of course, most of my clients are now my friends… at least on Facebook

Q: Do you have backup equipment?

A: Yes I do. I always carry two cameras with me to every event. And yes, is very uncomfortable but at least I look pretty cool.

Q: If my wedding site is out of your area, do you charge a travel fee and what does that cover?

A: No, I do not charge a travel fee in the USA when I get hired for more than 6 hrs otherwise you’ll have to take care of it.

Q: Are you photographing other events on the same day as mine?

A: No. I shoot maximum of one wedding per day. I may have two weddings in a weekend but it would not interfere with your day.

Q: How will you be dressed?

A: I’ll be wearing a suit of course. I normally ask the bride for the colors of the wedding so I can dress appropriately.

Q: Is it okay if other people take photos while you're taking photos?

A: In order for you to receive the best service and most compelling photos possible, I must be the exclusive professional photographer for the wedding. Additional professional photographers may be employed only with prior written permission from Cesar Chavez Photography. Guest photographers are welcome with one caveat: The photographer will request your intervention if a guest is inhibiting my ability to fully document your wedding.

Q: If my event lasts longer than expected, will you stay? Is there an additional charge?

A: Of course. The cost of the extra hour will be specified in the contract.

Q: What type of album designs do you offer? Do you provide any assistance in creating an album?

A: The album includes 20 pages and I’ll design the layout using the selection of the “fully edited” photographs chosen by the bride. I normally submit my albums for competition and therefore I only use a clean and contemporary style for the layout of the pages.

Q: Do you provide retouching, color adjustment or other corrective services?

A: Yes, all the photograph taken at your wedding will be edited using my standard basic color corrections and cropping as part of my photography service. The selection of photographs for the albums will be “Fully Edited”, please contact me and ask me to show you some examples of my post-production (before & after) so you can have a clear idea of the difference between my standard basic color corrections and the fully edited photographs.

Q: How long after the wedding will I get the proofs? Will they be viewable online?

A: You will receive a link to your online gallery where you can download all the photographs in High resolution and without the watermark. You will receive your link no later than 3 months after your wedding.

Q: What is the ordering process?

A: You don’t have to buy digital files from your online gallery, they are yours, you own the full copyrights. You and family can buy prints thru your online gallery but as you already know, once you download the photos you can make your own prints and/or upload them to your social media accounts.

Q: Do you have liability insurance?

A: Yes.

Q: Can I customize a package based on my needs?

A: Yes, you may customize a package based on your needs, however, I find that the packages I already have created always offer the most value.

Q: Are you able to converse with my guests in Spanish?

A: Yes, I am bilingual in Spanish and English. Spanish is my native language.

Q: What is your refund/cancellation policy?

A: A non-refundable retainer of $600 is due at the signing of the Agreement. Upon receipt of the retainer, I will reserve your date and be available to you on that date. The retainer is applied toward your total investment agreement. I will not reserve your wedding date until after receipt of the retainer. You may not transfer the retainer to another party, bridal couple or anyone else without my prior written consent. The final payment of the balance owing is due no less than 30 days before the wedding date. Note that photography will not start until this is paid. If this Agreement is signed less than fourteen days from the wedding date, then all payments are due at signing. If the remaining balance is not paid in full seven days prior to the scheduled date of the event, I reserve the right to not photograph the event.

Q: How long after I order my photos/album will I get them?

A: No later than 4 months after you provide the selection of photographs for your album.
